Introducing The Civet as a Pet


          If you hear the word civet definitely in our minds imagine large animals which like to eat chicken. These conditions complained of by the farmer of chickens on a small scale in villages and cities. It is also resulting in much sought after because of the civet is considered as harmful pests. But lately in Indonesia, the trend turned into civet as an unique pet. Already many communities are growing in the region of Indonesia where members are a civet lovers and has attention to the survival of wild civets are much sought after because they interfere with the public. The animals belonging to the carnivorous mammals are widely used as pet because they have the behavior likes a dog and cat. Hair color which nice is also a concern for civet lovers. There are many types of civets are maintained in Indonesia, e.g: the common palm civet, small Indian civet, and root civets.

Common Palm Civet

          The common palm civet is a kind of weasel that many kept in Indonesia. That civet which has the scientific name Paradoxurus hermaphroditus has shades of hair color gray to black with shades of white on his face. So that it is seen to resemble a mask. Aside from being a pet, a palm civet also many breeding to obtain coffee beans with the selling price of the most expensive in the world. Small Indian civet has light brown to grey hair color shades with black spots on its back. While root civets has gray shades of black like a palm civets but do not have a white pattern resembling a mask on its face.
        The price of civets in the market depends on the type and age. The price is also affected by benign or not. The more benign will be more expensive. Lowest civet is a type of small Indian civet with prices ranging between Rp. 150.000 – Rp. 350.000. While the most expensive is the palm civet albino. Kit from root civets ranged between Rp. 2.000.000 – Rp. 2.900.000 and for adult between Rp. 1.400.000 – Rp. 1.800.000 depends from benign or not. For adult palm civets not tame usually ranges between Rp. 200.000 – Rp. 350.000, while domesticated between Rp. 450.000 – Rp. 800.000. When civets are obese and had won the contest, its price becomes more expensive.
         In maintain it was not so difficult. Civets are usually given feed in the form of fruits such as bananas and meat. Cat food that are sold in pet shop also can be given as a protein source. Many civets are becoming obese due to the excess feed patterns. Although it is cute, civet who are obese it is very susceptible to various metabolic diseases. Therefore, many civet owners bring their pet to come out every afternoon or morning for exercise because of the civet has the nature of a dog who likes to tour around.
           If you want to look for other pet that are not uncommon, perhaps civet is an option that is worth a try. With a commitment to maintain a good, civet can be the best friend when you are experiencing stress at once can be an effort to preserve the population of civets that were hunted because it is considered a pest.
